Separated

by thirty years

Something more

than that separates us now

How young you were

How young I was

How unfair it was

For our worlds to overlap

for no more than sixteen years

I became a part of yours

You became a part of mine

How much we loved

How often we laughed

How painful it was

To realise my chance

was gone and so were you

Looking upon

this form without a soul.

How surreal it felt

How late the tears came

How long they lingered

In my heart

is where I keep you close

No matter the years

No matter the distance
