Five by Five

Writer's picture: Red Writing HoodRed Writing Hood

Lately I find myself exploring poetry more and more. Not just reading it, but writing it as well. It's still extremely new to me, so there's an element of unease there. However, I also find it an interesting form of writing. Recently I've learned about cinquains. I've tried my hand at them. They look deceptively simple, but getting the right amount of syllables while keeping the poem comprehensible was still tricky. And fun! I chose easy topics to start with. Things that bring me joy. So here's a set of 5 cinquains.

Tea

Warm hands

My soul softens

One sip, eyes closed, blissful

Like a comfortable blanket

Is tea

The Ocean and I

Bare feet

Sand between toes

Silence, only the waves

This moment nothing else exists

Just us

Blankets

Cosy

Soft, warm and safe

With you wrapped around me

I am protected, not alone

Rest now

Books

New worlds

Between pages

Live a thousand lives more

Whisked away for a little while

The end

Autumn

Leaves change

Green to yellow

Red and brown, letting go

Drifting through the air, descending

Rain pours
